Seeing mostly good reviews, I called the owner Denny at about 8pm asking if I could arrive around 11. No problem- he replied that I could show up and the room would be unlocked. So I show up at 11. The temperature is 25 degrees outside and falling rapidly towards the teens. The temperature inside is around 50 degrees. (I have a watch with a temp function). There is a 5 foot electric baseboard heater at one end of a quite long room. I can't find a thermostat anywhere in the room so I call Denny. "Oh, I guess he forgot to go in there and turn on the heat." He tells me there's a knob at the end of the heater to turn it on. I turn the knob all the way one way and wait five minutes- no sign of heat. Then another 5 minutes with the knob in the other direction. No heat. I call Denny again and he suggests I use the small OLD portable heater near the bed. It takes me 10 minutes of fiddling to get that to turn on, but it's obviously not up to the job. At this point, I call the other three hotels in Cuba, NM but it's too late and none take the call. I call Denny again and he suggests (rudely) that I find another hotel in Cuba. And that there is an extra blanket in the room. After about 30 minutes, I figure out how to get the electric baseboard on (it takes about 15 minutes until you can feel any heat coming out of it). By two AM, I've got both heaters working and the room is finally warm enough to go to sleep. ALSO, the bathroom is a long room with its own entry door right off the main door. So it's kind of separate from the main room. And guess what- it has no heat. There is no way you're gonna want to shower in there in cold weather. SO bottom line is- you do NOT want to be here in cold weather, and you do NOT want to put up with the rude owner either. I should have paid more attention to the other negative reviews.

Our group of 7 stayed at the Hacienda when visiting Chaco Canyon in October 2023. We had a very positive experience, although I will admit that we had some doubts when we checked in with Denny at the Phillips 66 and then drove down a very rural road with lots of crumbling shacks. But the Hacienda was very clean, comfortable, and peaceful. Our breakfasts were served at the grill at the Phillips 66 and were delicious. Although there were several other restaurants in town, they all seemed to be closed, so we ended up having 2 dinners at the Phillips 66 as well. (They were delicious too! We especially loved the fry bread!) We did have some plumbing issues during our stay (the shower drain was backed up) but Denny fixed the issue promptly. It was certainly not elegant, but it was quite charming and unique.

This place is "Book at your own risk." The owner, "Denny"took our reservation by phone and confirmed the day of the planned stay. I replied and confirmed via text. There was no email confirmation or pre payment. We arrived at the "hacienda" around 7:30 pm to find several young men in the kitchen, having already claimed both of the two rooms available and refused to vacate, saying they had made reservations via Denny. When I attempted to contact Denny, he did not respond to numerous texts and calls. My husband found a place nearby at the last minute-they were closing in 5 minutes ad we rushed to check in, the Frontier Hotel, a blessing. (Cuba is in the middle of nowhere, we ate at McDonald's as it was the only thing open when we landed in town around 6:30. I went to the gas station which doubles as a breakfast place for the Hacienda" , you couldn't make this up, they denied any knowledge of Denny's whereabouts . (I get that it is great that there are any services in this part of the world, the poverty is awful and resources are slim.) We are a couple in our early 70's and the thought of sleeping in the car was not an option. Clearly D. stood to make twice the fee by renting to this other party.

Chaco Lodge Hacienda will not disappoint. Clean, nicely decorated, and most of all, peaceful. If you enjoy a wonderful symphony of crickets to put you to sleep and waking up to a beautiful Mountain View to sip coffee from an amazing patio, then Chaco Lodge is the place for you. Best rest I’ve had in quite some time!!

I don't know what all the fuss is about this place. I realize that I'm biased by the fact that I was there on a very cold and snowy night and the furnace was broken. Unfortunately, the tiny electric room heater just could not keep up with 23° temp. Even if the heat was working I think it rates a 3. It's located at the end of a pretty dumpy road in a pretty dumpy town. The mountain view is nice. The place is clean and the bed is comfortable, but I'm not a fan of having to sleep under several heavy blankets. And the lighting is terrible. Could even read a book. The owner did have a very nice maintenance guy try to repair the furnace to no avail. Check in is advertised at 3pm, but it was still being cleaned until 4pm, so I got to sit in my truck in the cold and snow in the town which has nothing to do for an hour. So you check in and out at the Phillips 66 station and conveniently when I checked out the owner was absent, so I couldn't even discuss a partial refund. I texted him and asked for $40 off the $140 nightly charge. He said the credit card charge could not be refunded. Sounded fishy, but he asked for my address, which I assumed meant he would send a check. Three weeks later nothing. I waited 3 weeks to write this review, which I believe is a reasonable amount of time to send a refund. Apparently not. Obviously I do not recommend staying here.

We were looking for a place to stay while visiting Chaco Canyon. (Which is about 1.5 hours away) This was a nice little rustic getaway. It was peaceful and relaxing. The view from here is really great. Everything was clean inside. Beautiful patio, table and grill available outside. We stayed in the Kiva room which had a small fridge & microwave. I believe other side of the house has a full kitten and 2 bedrooms. Sitting on the patio or covered porch was so nice and relaxing. They offer a free Breakfast From the grill in town at (Phillips 66) It was actually, excellent. So good we had them make us a Burrito’s for lunch at the Canyon. Great experience, We will definitely come back. If you do not like Rustic, maybe not for you. If you want a peaceful culturally rich get away, this is your place.

Such an attractive place, obviously well kept-up. Clean and comfortable. So nice to sit out in the porch as the sun went down with a glass of wine! Grabbed a delicious breakfast burrito on my way out of town (included with my stay). Denny was great to deal with. Our only mistake was only staying one night!

We stayed there a month ago. At that time Denny (the owner) had lost our reservation and nothing was written down, but fortunately we could get in because in just happened that no one else had booked it. It was excellent. We wanted to come back. Denny even had his son return our waterpic to Albuquerque. We have limited time and money so we planned a trip for my wife to come in the only two days she had free THIS WHOLE MONTH. She even called Denny again and reconfirmed our dates, and we have a saved text of it. She drove 90 miles from Albuquerque to Cuba and THEY DID IT AGAIN. No reservation! Nothing written down. (Full disclosure, Denny was home suffering with Covid, we had it last month and our sympathy's) But she was STRANDED with no place to stay. No one knew anything. I called more than 10 times, left messages. . It breaks my heart to see what this did to my wife. I'd be happy to talk to anyone thinking about going there. My number is 559-392-1039. My email is scottjazz2018@gmail.com Nothing in this review is exaggerated. We are still waiting to hear from Denny or anyone associated...

We called to make a reservation. The person who picked up sounded very disorganized. I patiently waited on the line while they said they are checking the calendar. They were on another call, we could hear them speak. They asked again why we were on the phone. We asked for the date once again, then they said they have a house available with kitchen and two rooms for $180. We didn't need so much space so we asked if they had something smaller. He asked us to check into a motel and hung up. We were happy to stay but just wanted something a little smaller versus an entire house. Poor customer service. Very disappointing treatment.

They needed two room the house is only option 170.00+tax per nite. Asked for a cheaper rate told them to call local hotels for cheaper rooms don’t discount rates ever especially with high covid cleaning costs.

This was such a nice retreat. The view from here is really great. I loved the solitude of this place. Everything was very nice inside. Sitting on the patio or covered porch was so nice and relaxing. The free breakfast from the grill in town was excellent. It was fun listening to and talking to the local people at the grill. Great experience, I’ll definitely come back.
